Bougainvillea

These woody, thorny vines grow to nearly 12 metres long and clamber over other plants with their spikes. They are relatively pest-free and burst into colourful blooms of red, yellow, white, purple, orange, magenta and pink  flowers.

We had atleast one of these colours of bougainvilla growing in almost every house in Rourkela and they were referred to as “paper flowers” because of the crisp and crumbly texture of its petals. A wonderful splash of colour to brighten every garden!
